MAINTENANCE: Maintenance of the steering system involves regular lubrication. What you need to do is lubricate each of the grease fittings in the steering linkage itself. Also, an additional maintenance item is to take a hold of the tie rods themselves and check them for floods. Simply grasp the tie rod and move it straight up and down. If you feel any excessive free play, you'll need to replace the inner and/or outer tie rod as a unit. If your auto has power steering, it's a good idea to check the power steering belt tension as well as the power steering fluid level at periodic intervals.
